This is a set of 10 alternative Christmas cards, 2 of each illustration. They are 140 x140mm with kraft envelopes made from recycled paper. Each card is printed in Ireland on 350g recycled paper and with inks made from plants. They were originally illustrated so that the cards could be framed after and not a throw away item.
I wanted to create cards that look at the beauty of our surroundings in winter. I also wanted to make cards to address the biodiversity and climate crisis and yet generate hope for the future. That change is possible when we work together. There is one card that is not based in Ireland which has a polar bear mother and cub. This is a nod to all of the people and species we share the planet with. We are all one large community connected in so many ways. This was the original starting point for the cards.
This set includes two of each card:
Tree roots grow deep underground, branches touch the stars
Humpback whale and local fishermen under the milky way, December
Wren Boys, frosty farmland, early morning, December 26th
Brent geese on coastal estuary with festoons, December morning
A polar bear mother looks up at the constellations of Ursa major & Ursa minor
