Aoife Hammond is the General Manager of the Dublin Food Co-op. This post shares her journey to visit the producers of the organic eggs we sell at the Co-op.
It may surprise some members, but organic eggs are some of the most bought produce at the Co-op. As one of the Co-ops most consistent suppliers, I thought it was about time that I took a visit Butlers’ Organic Egg Farm in Co. Carlow.
I was offered a friendly welcome by farmers David and Paula. After much-needed tea and buns, they brought me for a tour around their lovely farm.
It wasn’t long before I found large fields with chickens roaming around with a huge warehouse nearby to head off to in the evening. There didn’t seem to be much stopping the chickens from setting their own course for the day either!. Farmer David was quick to share his pride in keeping happy, healthy, roaming chickens.
The Dublin Food Co-op is one of Butlers’ biggest customers and we are proud to supply their lovely eggs to members and visitors alike. I’m looking forward to my next visit to their organic farm.
